Behavioural training

Going beyond basic training, behavioural training is recommended for dogs displaying undesirable behaviours which may cause harm to themselves or others. It is made up of an in-depth in-personal consultation to decide the best next steps for you and your dog. Before proceeding with any behavioural training the medical history of your dog is required as pain and health problems are often a secondary factor towards behavioural problems. The inital consultation will also discuss environment, enrichment, methodology used so far, and  any known causes as to why the behaviour may happen. After we have the consultation completed there will be a training session and plan put in place to attempt to recreate the behaviours shown - if it is safe to do so - as well as going for a normal walk where i will observe the behaviours happening and how we can correct and rechange the, to allow for more appropriate behaviours to occur.

A behavioural modification plan will be made and sent over within 72 hours of the initial assessment. All additional items required will need to be obtained before our first session to ensure safety (muzzle, longline, colour coded lead/harness/slip cover, appropriate lead/harness etc) however any aversives will not be accepted (martingale collar, choke chain, e-collar or slip lead)

Behavioural training deals with a range of issues such as:

  • Dog to dog aggression
  • Dog to human aggression
  • fear aggression
  • Resource guarding
  • Separation anxiety
  • Phobias and fears
